  AK Freedom Physical Therapy

"Freedom from pain and the Freedom to live life fully"

At Freedom Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation, we're tightly focused on our vision and it drives everything we do.  We do that with every person, every day.  We listen, carefully evaluate your condition and provide effective treatment that also honors you as a whole person— in mind, body and spirit.  Since we see people as uniquely individual, we avoid assembly-line approaches.  As such, we see our patients for one-on-one care provided by highly-skilled physical therapists.  Due to our expertise and success with manual therapy, we won't automatically place you in a gym for "exercises" as we're motivated to provide you with the best possible results.

Each of our physical therapists has expertise in specific, evidence-based manual techniques that place us on the front edge of results gained in clinics nationally and internationally.  Approximately 80% of our patients are seen for a short time-frame— between 6-12 sessions from start to finish— and with high-level outcomes.  But don’t take our word for it….  Check out our Success Stories to see what our “graduates” have to say!

Todd has been a physical therapist for over 30 years… and is still passionate about going to work every day.  He practices multiple types of evidence-based manual therapies and tailored, common-sense exercises for optimal and rapid outcomes.  Todd’s relentless drive to help those in need has led to several rigorous and respected certifications, including Board Certification in Orthopedics, an advanced Doctorate with a musculoskeletal specialty and the highest level of advancement, including teaching, in the research-preferred manual technique, Stecco Fascial Manipulation™ method.  However, beyond certifications and academic work, Todd is better known for his active listening and results-driven, patient-centered care.

In his free time, Todd enjoys spending time with his family and friends, hiking, fishing, putzing outdoors and pondering issues related to his faith.

Danielle Seramur, PT, DPT, ATC

Danielle’s intense interest in helping people to recover from injury and physical limitations led her to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and Doctorate in Physical Therapy.  While already having over 3 years of clinical experience when coming to FPT, she is now working on an intensive clinical mentoring program to achieve expertise in the Stecco Fascial Manipulation™ method.

Danielle is grateful to have found a job she loves and one that has the capability to diminish or eliminate pain and functional impairments so individuals can return to an active lifestyle. Seeing this impact is what gives her the motivation to acquire new knowledge and sharpen her skills.

Danielle and her husband decided they were ready for an adventure and decided to leave her home state of Michigan and move to Alaska….and they are loving it! The plethora of fish, wild game, and the great outdoors fits their lifestyle perfectly.

Her hobbies include pretty much any active outdoor activity and she actually finds running enjoyable. She tries to run a half marathon every year and plans to take on the Kenai half marathon this year. Danielle also enjoys hiking and camping trips with my husband David, and Ranger, their husky mix puppy acquired last November.

Her last big passion in life is to travel. She desires to visit and learn about other cultures and finds it very intriguing how much diversity exists even between the states.

Diane Pollock, RN, BSN
Diane is a Registered Nurse with over 30 years of experience, most being hospital-based.  Having previous operations management experience, she now serves as our office manager to guide us with wisdom, generosity and a deep commitment to patient-centered care.

While having little free time, Diane enjoys time spent with her family and close friends, hiking, reading, cooking, gardening and pursuing ideas and activities related to her faith.

Why did we open Freedom Physical Therapy & Sports Rehabilitation?

As one of the few clinics in the United States to practice the specialized manual technique of Fascial Manipulation™ on an expert level, we see our vision of “offering freedom from pain and the freedom to live life fully” as a fantastic opportunity.  Leaning on a strong and growing body of research evidence and successful clinical practice, we also want to help change the way pain is so often treated.

While the physical therapy and medical literature is now coming to better understand the way we are interconnected—as in the terms “regional interdependence” or “myofascial expansions”—many clinicians are still focused on treating a part instead of the whole.  Not surprisingly, results of such techniques are often quite limited.  Stated more clearly, effective care needs to take the whole into consideration.
Picture
Although many of the people coming to our clinic may be aware of only one or two primary sites of pain, when examined, they are often found to have many painful areas.  Due to linkages within the fascia and muscle, effective treatment requires us to treat most or all of these areas for full resolution.  For example, neck pain may be related to a previous hip injury or shoulder pain related to an injury in the low back.  There are many possible combinations.  However, such an approach generally takes much less time to successfully treat out all the problem areas for full and lasting relief.
For those interested, one can quickly access peer-reviewed professional journals via the search engines Google, Google Scholar or PubMed to look up the terms mentioned above as well as the names of prominent researchers such as Carla Stecco, MD, PhD, and Antonio Stecco, MD, PhD.  Such researchers are finally helping us to understand more accurately how the body is interconnected and functions and how certain muscular and fascial pathologies can be a source of so much of our misery.

Finally, to demonstrate that the concept of interconnection is not new, we have a quote by the Greek philosopher, Plato, prominently displayed in our office.... “The cure of the part should not be attempted without the cure of the whole.”
